The Complete Racing Guide shares the comments of some of the winners on last Saturday’s 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.
The Carl Anderson-bred, owned and trained Twilight Citizen was ridden to victory by Andre Powell in the second race over 1,400 metres. Powell said: “This horse should have been a winner on last, but unfortunately he walked out of the starting gates and gave away his chances but ended a close second. Since then he has worked really well coming into this race, and I knew that once we got a good break it would have been by how far he would win.”
Lady Marcianne, trained by Donovan Plummer and ridden by Phillip Parchment, won the third race at odds of 31-1 over 1,100 metres. Parchment said: “I haven’t ridden a winner for some time now and I am happy that I could get that off my back. The feeling is good and I am going to work even harder as I want to win more races.”
Wesley Henry rode St Bernard to victory in the fifth race over 1,300 metres for trainer Neive Graham. After the race Henry said: “I was always confident as he beat them already and I didn’t see why he shouldn’t do the same again.” Graham said: “The plan was to get a good break, relax him and ride him for the last two furlongs, and that paid dividends.”
Urban Principal, under Odean Edwards, won the sixth race over 1,300 metres. After the race Edwards said: “This race was an easy one. There was nothing really outstanding in the line-up to contest us. He was just better than these, and it would have taken something very special and outstanding to deny us victory.”
Director Daley, bred, owned and trained by Lorenzo Robinson and ridden by Hakeem Pottinger, won the eighth race over 1,300 metres at odds of 159-1. Robinson said: “He worked brilliantly in his last two gallops coming into this race and these are maiden horses, so I gave him a chance. After those workouts, I told the groom that we had a good chance of winning and so the confidence level was there; the jockey rode a brilliant race as well to take us home.”
