Jesus taught forgiveness over judgement
Dear Editor,
I write in response to those who endorse the resumption of capital punishment in Jamaica.
Hanging neither deters violent criminals from committing heinous crimes, nor have any murder victims ever been resurrected when their murderers were executed.
Strangely, even a Christian pastor wrote to the Jamaica Observer saying “Enough is enough. I say hang them high!”, justifying his call for revenge with a quotation from a book written long before the birth of Jesus Christ.
Those who pride themselves in being good Christians but call for punishment and revenge ought to be reminded, that their saviour emphasised grace and forgiveness over judgement.
Change may come from better education, not from resuming capital punishment.
