Cops seize 15 firearms in St Ann since January
ST ANN, Jamaica — Head of the St Ann police division Superintendent Wayne Cameron says 15 guns have been recovered in the parish since the start of the year, with the most recent seized in Parry Town on Thursday.
Addressing residents at a town hall meeting in Brown’s Town on Thursday, Cameron said the St Ann police are doing all they can in terms of deployment and strategies to combat crime in the parish.
“If we are getting the guns, then our murders will start going down,” he said, adding that more than 80 per cent of murders in the parish has been committed using guns.
Twenty-four people have been killed in the parish since the start of the year, three of whom were killed in Brown’s Town. These murders include two mob killings.
In the meantime, Cameron said many of the murders in St Ann since the start of 2016 happened in communities which are traditionally peaceful and quiet. He said a part from Lime Hall, the hotspots in the parish have been doing well.
Head of Area Two ACP Glenford Hudson said gang-related activities were under control. He said murders in St Ann were spread all across the parish.
