Buzz Nightmare obliges in GA ‘Sarge’ Bucknor Memorial Cup
In a demonstration of pure class, the talented Buzz Nightmare, under veteran Ian ‘Dolly Baby’ Spence, produced a terrific run in deep stretch to land the GA ‘Sarge’ Bucknor Memorial Cup feature in fine style at Caymanas Park yesterday.
Coming off a four-and-a-half-month absence, Buzz Nightmare, who was down-in-class to contest the Overnight Allowance event, showed no signs of distress when easily putting away rivals by five lengths going the distance of 1,000 metres straight.
With a tight hold from Spence, Buzz Nightmare raced prominently into second position just behind the speedyRoyal Assault, the mount of champion jockey Shane Ellis, passing the dummy rails.
When asked to really run by Spence, Buzz Nightmare responded well and powered away from his 10 rivals to register his sixth career victory from just nine starts with lifetime earnings of over $2.6 million.
Royal Assault finished a clear second ahead of Hologram Shadow (Javaniel Patterson up) and Golden Glory (O’Brien White astride).Lady Shankari (Hakeem Pottinger aboard) and Silver Cloud, under Omar Walker, finished third and fourth respectively, but were both disqualified for causing interference to horses shortly after the start of the race.
Bred by Ham Stables Limited, owned by Two Penyu and trained by many-time champion Philip Feanny, Buzz Nightmare (Into Mischief – Queen Of Battle by Dance Brightly) stopped the clock in an eye-catching 57.1 seconds.
Meanwhile, jockey Robert Halledeen and apprentice Bebeto Harvey rode two winners each to take the riding honours on the 10-race programme. Halledeen won aboard Choo Choo Blue and Sonador Express, while Harvey’s winners wereBlessedness and Sir Leyland Hall.
Owner Miss Suckie and trainer Peter McMaster also combined for a double. They opened the day with Choo Choo Blue and closed the day with Princess Emanuelle.
Racing continues next Saturday at the Park.
