Molynes ‘A’ crush Waulgrovians ‘B’ in Supreme Ventures Major League netball

MOLYNES United ‘A’, led by goal shooter Shantal Slater’s 60 goals from 73 attempts, crushed Waulgrovians ‘B’ 80-19 as the 2016 Netball Jamaica/Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) Major League competition continued at the Leila Robinson Courts last Saturday.

The Roy Pryce-coached Molynes ‘A’ were scoring their biggest margin of victory over the Marvette Anderson-coached Waulgrovians ‘B’, as they increased their chances of securing a place in the quarter-finals knockout.

Molynes ‘A’ led throughout all four quarters of the match as they completely outplayed their opponents. They took a commanding 28-2 lead at the first-quarter break, and then raced to a 40-7 lead at the half-time break.

For the third and fourth quarters, Molynes ‘A’ were unstoppable as Slater went on a scoring spree along with her goal attack, Denise Bartley, who scored 11 goals from 24 attempts. The third quarter ended 60-13. Abigah Sutherland got 11 from 14 for the losers.

Meanwhile, former many-time champions Jamalco and Mico ‘A’ continued on their unbeaten run with wins in Zones One and Two, respectively. They are the first two teams to qualify for the quarter-finals.

It was, however, not an easy win for the Winston Nevers-coached Jamalco aggregation, as Waulgrovians ‘A’, coached by Marvette Anderson, gave them a good challenge before they finally came out winners 39-34 for their sixth-consecutive win from as many starts.

Goal shooter Elaine Davis scored 32 goals from 42 attempts for Jamalco, while Ladonna Lamont got 26 from 38 efforts. The quarterly scores were 13-9, 19-20, and 33-28.

Mico ‘A’ cruised past UTech Knights 45-29 through shooters Taniel Roberts with 16 from 26 and Stephanie Roberts 16 from 26, while Shenel Riley with 13 from 19 and Khadijah Williams, 12 from 23, scored for the Knights. There were quarterly scores of 14-6, 22-16, and 34-23.

UWI Pelicans moved closer to a quarter-final berth with a 43-29 win over Molynes United ‘B’ with shooters Thristina Harwood scoring 23 from 28, Rebekah Robinson, 12 from 16, while for the losers Saffan Knight got 20 from 29. The quarterly scores were 12-6, 23-13, and 29-19.

Cablepro defeated Jetsetters ‘A’ 60-35 with quarterly scores of 16-5, 33-14, and 51-24. Annette Miller got 16 from 24 and Ornella Linton 11 from 17 for the losers.

SPEG ‘A” got past SKIBO 38-35 with quarterly scores of 9-7, 18-16, and 28-29.

Meanwhile, the Major and Minor Leagues continue today with the following matches. Major League – Raven vs Waulgrovians ‘A”; Molynes ‘B’ vs Mico ‘B’; UWI Pelicans vs Global United ‘A’ at 5:00 pm.

AT 6:30 pm – Cablepro vs Mico ‘A’; Alpha ‘A’ vs Molynes ‘A’; Jetsetters ‘A’ vs SKIBO; SPEG ‘A’ vs UTech Knights.

Matches scheduled in the Minor League are as follows: Global United ‘B’ vs Tantrum; Sports and Games ‘B’ vs Waterhouse Eagles; Duhaney Park ‘C’ vs Eden Strikers ‘A’ at 2:00 pm.

At 3:00: Hagley Park vs Duhaney Park ‘A’; Wolmer’s vs Drewsland; Alpha ‘B’ vs Police ‘C’; Queens Park vs Westchester ‘B’.

At 4:00: Ocho Rios Magics vs Tryall Heights; Duhaney Park ‘B’ vs Southboro; Eden Strikers ‘B’ vs Baldes United ‘C’; SPEG ‘B’ vs Top Mountain Flames; while at 5:00 pm Leiba Gardens face EXED Sants.
