A winner for Muir in Canada
Shamaree Muir won his first race on Canadian soil when he piloted Mr Rosberg to victory in the sixth race at Northlands Park in Edmonton last Friday.
Trained by Tom Rycroft, Mr Rosberg, who was sent off as an 8-1 betting option, came with a strong run against the inside rails in deep stretch to win by a length and a half going away ahead of Smokeshow City and A Hook McCracken in the waiver claiming event for three-year-olds and upward over six furlongs. The winning time was 1:13:11 minutes.
“It feels so good and wonderful knowing that I have won my first race on the international stage. I am so happy and pleased with myself on this occasion and I am going to cherish this moment for a very long time,” Muir told the Complete Racing Guide.
“I must thank the trainer and the connections for giving me the rides. I have been running some good seconds and I would feel that winning a race would come soon and finally when it came, I am just happy with it. So far I am enjoying myself and I am continuing to do the hard work,” he said.
Dane Nelson continued his good form when he tallied three winners over the weekend of racing. On Friday, Nelson won aboard the unbeaten 6-5 favourite Macho Babe, who romped home by eight lengths in an Allowance Optional Claiming event over six furlongs in 1:10:98 minutes for trainer Greg Tracy.
Nelson then returned on Saturday and rode two winners on the nine-race programme.
He opened the programme on 6-5 favourite Centrefire for Tracy in an Allowance event over six furlongs and closed the show aboard 2-1Seek The Noblest, who cruised home by six lengths in a waiver claiming event over six furlongs.Seek The Noblest is also trained by Tracy.
“Give thanks to the trainers for their support, and congratulations to Shamaree (Muir) on winning his first race and I hope he can get more winners,” Nelson said.
