Wisynco Group Limited, through its brands Wata and Powerade, has accepted the task of fuelling athletes for the inaugural staging of the Jamaica National (JN) Racers Grand Prix.

A number of Jamaica’s finest will square off against some of the world’s most elite athletes in what is expected to be an explosive festival of speed on June 11 at the National Stadium.

Michaela Francis, brand marketing manager of Powerade, which is also the official sports drink of the Olympic Games, believes the calibre of the Grand Prix will be a jump-start for her organisation ahead of Rio.

“We are fuelling Olympians in a few months, so it was only fitting for us to come on board with the Grand Prix to ensure that the athletes participating in this world-class event are well-fuelled. We are sure it will be a resounding success and will add even more value to the development of athletics in our Jamaican community,” she told the

Jamaica Observer at a press conference at the Jamaica Pegasus on Wednesday.

“Powerade and Wata are honoured to be a part of this initiative and we actually take great pride in this activation. So Wisynco Group Limited, as a part of the Coco-Cola company, has been avid lovers and a partner of many of the world’s biggest sporting events could not pass up the opportunity to be aligned with this club and its quality of athletes,” Francis added.

Francis said her brands mandate goes hand in hand with the objective of the Grand Prix, which is aimed at garnering funds to assist with the development of the next generation of athletes.

“We are proud of the relationship that our brand has with the sporting industry and we continue to seek to advance the development of sports overall. We are very pleased to contribute to the development of Jamaica’s athletics and of the Racers Track Club,” she noted.

She continued: “This partnership is phenomenal for us; we are about culture, sport and about giving back to our Jamaican community. We are lovers of developing our community, and what better avenues to show our commitment to our country than to support something like the sporting industry.”

Though reluctant to declare the exact figure of their sponsorship, Francis assured that they are contributing in excess of $3 million in cash and kind, and will also have on the ground activities which will surprise those in attendance.

“We don’t want to share everything… there are some things that are in the making, so once the fans come out they will be in for a treat. So I urge Jamaicans to come out and see what we have to offer along with the quality of athletes that are going to be on show.

“We are certainly looking forward to giving those world-class athletes the added confidence and the assurance that their needs will be met at Racers Grand Prix as we look forward to an exciting event,” she ended.
