Liguanea face Mico ‘C’ in Sunshine netball final
UNBEATEN teams Liguanea United and Mico ‘C’ are set to square off in the 2016 Sunshine Cereals Intermediate League netball final today at the Leila Robinson Courts, starting 6:00 pm.
Both teams qualified for the final by registering wins in their respective semi-finals last Thursday. Liguanea defeated Molynes United ‘C’ 36-27, while Mico held off a late charge from Alexander Strikers to win a thrilling encounter 31-30.
Sylvester ‘Chris’ Campbell, coach of Liguanea, said it should be a tough one.
“We cannot take any chances with Mico ‘C’ as they are a very good team. They are very good passers of the ball and also a fit team, but we will be countering everything they apply,” Campbell said.
“We have the shooters and good centre-court players to match them, but we have to avoid making too many mistakes as it could possibly be the turning point in the match,” he added.
Assistant coach of Mico ‘C’, Janet Guy said the players are ready and are confident of winning.
“We are well-prepared for Liguanea who we know will be challenging us strongly, but the players are ready and well-prepared for a tough match,” Guy said.
Guy added that with two unbeaten teams in the final, it should be a very exciting and competitive match.
Both teams are expected to rely heavily on their shooters, but much of the action is expected to come from centre court and defensive plays.
Liguanea’s shooting should come from Patricia Brown and Tashlieka Laird, while Mico ‘C’s attacks will rest on the shoulders of Lecia Dale and Veneicia Tomlinson.
Molynes ‘C’ and Alexander Strikers will play off for third place, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
The day’s activities will begin with a rally amongst the teams who competed in the intermediate league, starting this afternoon at 1:00.
