Brazil, Maverley/Hughenden continue battle for promotion
Maverley/ Hughenden FC could gain premier league qualification today when they tackle Brazil FC in a mammoth encounter in the Jamaica Football Federation Charley’s JB Rum Play-off match at Drax Hall in St Ann, starting 3:30 pm.
In the other game of academic interest, the already qualified Jamalco FC of Clarendon travel to St James to play Granville United.
Jamalco lead the four-team group with 12 points, ahead of Maverley/Hughenden with seven points and Brazil lying third with four points. Granville are at the bottom without a point after four games.
A win for the Corporate Area team over Brazil of St Ann will take them to 10 points and into the Red Stripe Premier League.
Both teams battled to a 1-1 draw in the first round, but this time it is a must-win game for Brazil. Coach David Galloway said they have no choice but to get three points.
“Going into the game against Maverley, we know we only have one intention and the only intention is to get the three points,” he said.
It took a late equaliser from Brazil to salvage a point in their first meeting at Maverley.
“We are going to use that [home] advantage to garner the three points to accomplish our dreams and ambitions,” added Galloway.
