FLIPPED! – Court throws 25 years at Flippa Mafia

AFTER a fierce three-year legal battle, flashy dancehall deejay Flippa Mafia was sentenced to 25 years when he appeared in the Camden Superior Court in New Jersey, yesterday morning.

The 37-year-old entertainer (given name is Andrew Davis) will have to serve 12 years before being eligible for parole. He was also ordered to pay a US$250,000 anti-money laundering profiteering penalty.

In addition, the artiste is to face a retrial on leading a narcotics trafficking network. That charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison. A date is to be set for that trial.

“Andrew Davis thought he could live the good life in Jamaica with the hundreds of thousands of dollars he and his brothers reaped by shipping cocaine from California into New Jersey,” said Acting Attorney General Lougy. “His big mistake was underestimating how far we would go with our law enforcement partners to bring them to justice and stop them from trafficking their poison into our communities.”

In December 2015, Davis was found guilty of first-degree distribution of cocaine, second-degree money laundering, and second-degree conspiracy.

For their roles, the deejay’s brothers — Kemar and Roger Davis — were sentenced in March to 20 and 10 years, respectively.

According to prosecutors, investigations began in March 2011, when agents from the Camden High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force and the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office seized two packages from a mail facility in Marlton destined for receipt by Andrew Davis. Each package contained four kilogrammes of cocaine. It is believed the deejay ran an international drug ring that used the United States Mail and other delivery services to ship cocaine from California to New Jersey. More than 26 kilos of cocaine and over US$500,000 in cash were seized from the network.

Also known as the Flossing King and Flippa Moggela, the entertainer was known for hurling hundreds of dollar notes into the audience during his performances. He appeared in the 2002 movie Shottas, which stars Ky-Mani Marley and Spragga Benz. His songs include Unfinished House and Hear Mi Hear.
