BOCA CHICA, Dominican Republic — Shamar Nicholson went scoreless as Jamaica’s Under-20 footballers were again appallingly poor in Group Four of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) qualifiers here.

At the Estadio Panamericano yesterday, the 19-year-old Boys’ Town FC striker, who has two goals at the tournament, was subdued, and so too were his teammates as they succumbed to a shocking 0-2 loss to St Kitts & Nevis.

“I know my contribution to the team is important, not just to score goals, but to encourage and lift the players around me,” lamented the former Trench Town High Manning Cup player.

Nicholson was a part of the national Under-20 squad that was eliminated at the CONCACAF Round last year.

He is anxious to go one step further this time around.

“I want my teammates to have the frame of mind like me… to reach the U-20 World Cup next year,” said the long-limbed attacker.

“It’s important to win the games here and go to the next round (CFU Championship) and see what happens from there.

“Then hopefully we do well there and reach the CONCACAF level where we have disappointed, but we want to fix what went wrong last year,” added the Wilton Gardens resident.

Yesterday, it was another weak showing from the Young Boyz after registering a lacklustre, come-from-behind 2-1 over Dominica on Wednesday.

Nicholas, who won the top young player award in the 2014-15 Red Stripe Premier League, said Jamaica can still prevail once they improve in their last outing.

The Under-20 Boyz final group game is against hosts Dominican Republic tomorrow.

Only the top team in the group is assured of progressing to the CFU tournament, scheduled for Curacao later this year.

The best three runners-up across the four groups will also advance.

From there, teams will vie for places to the CONCACAF stage of World Cup qualifying.
