Talk Back
June 20, 2016

‘This is what power hunger does to people’

JAMAICA Observer online readers have reacted owerwhelmingly with cynicism to a declaration by former finance minister, Dr Peter Phillips, that people are upset that the People’s National Party (PNP) — to which he belongs — is not yet back in power after losing to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) in the February 25 General Election.

Dr Phillips made the comments as he addressed a meeting in St James last Thursday. The story was published in yesterday’s edition of the

Observer. The St Andrew East Central Member of Parliament was the campaign director for the PNP leading up to the election, which the party entered with a 21-seat majority. Here are some edited comments:

Hahahahahaha! A which people him a talk bout? Is Sista P him a call people? …Woiii mi have stitches.

JohnnyP

What heights of brightness! Why must the PNP think they own the country?

sharon ewars

“Many of us are upset, because it’s three months gone and we are not back in office yet”… Yes, I suspect people with houses in France might be upset right about now. LOL!

Cloud King

Peter Phillips can chat foolishness, sah! Always a chat wid water inna him mouth. Him chat too much. Him figgot seh a him chat bout Andrew house and mek di PNP lose di election.

Erica

Somebody smell blood.

yelduanealcm@gmail.com

One wonders if this is a purposeful destabilising attempt after all the new initiatives announced by the Government recently.

noshel

Is the PNP planning a coup? Or, is Dr Peter Phillips having nightmares that the PNP may never see office again?

Holy Perv

Dem food run out already? The PNP needs a dose of humility and morality.

Yahcub

You PNP people should be ashamed of yourself after breaking down Jamaica for so many years.

JAY

Cartoon season is here to stay. This is what power hunger does to people. Not sure what Koolaid Peter has been drinking, but he seems to have passed the jar around . I’m a bit surprised to see McNeil following this act, I thought he had more sense than that… Makes me now wonder .

Devon Robins

Is there a coup in the making?

chikV2Ebola

@Devon Robins: Wi don’t do coup round here! LOL!

mikec

Back in power to do WHAT? Your retirement will be in opposition.

Devon Robins

Cartoon of the Century!

NadsJ

@Devon Robins: Fi real.. Mi haffi double check fi si if a Clovis write dis.

Alessandro Ferrari

I want some of what you have been drinking, Peter! At least then I can live in an alternate reality too!

ijahmanthomas

Listen this: One, two, three, four, five years. Simple mathematics. Don’t be in such a rush to want to screw up the country again. Too much bad mind on the part of the PNP. Jamaica is not and never was PNP country as you [delusional] lot lead yourselves to believe.

Regent

The propaganda machinery is at it as usual. The PNP should be ashamed to even comment on the devaluation of the dollar given their track record. In the interest of Jamaica, please remain in Opposition.

rickky

@Regent: That’s the same thing I said; old age bothering Peter.

Yoda

LOL! Keep wishing.

dallo

The Comrade sounds delusional to me.

chikV2Ebola

@dallo: Parish Council election motivation !

@dallo: Parish Council election motivation !

Proud Jamaican

Hilarious!

Uno Is being in power the chief motivation of political parties? Where does the real interest of Jamaica come on the political agenda?

Murry

Murry

… A desperate, angry man as his own Comrade alluded to a few weeks back.

jahknow1

Bwoy mi a tell yuh: Jamaica is cursed with the worst set of politicians on earth.

Gloria Malcolm-Foster

The record shows that Jamaica always does better every time the PNP is in opposition. I don’t know on what basis does Peter feel that the PNP should be in office. It is clearly not on anything that they have done or demonstrated that they can do. They have no record to use to support their argument, so the PNP is trying to scare people.

jambad

jambad

His thinking, is what happen to people when they are in power for too long.

lorrie

lorrie

I love it when PNP is in the Opposition; they seem more concerned about people when they are there. Why should we change that?

Mark

Mark

Dem people yah a real poppyshow!!

Richie L

Is this guy serious? The JLP government is new and is already a breath of fresh air based on us seeing the prime minister more. During the previous Administration I wasn’t sure whether we had a prime minister because I rarely heard any public utterance from PSM (Portia Simpson Miller).

D.D.T

Mr Phillips is clearly hurt and has become delusional.

Verona

Verona

Fix my thoughts, Father, because I don’t believe what I just read. A who crown Phillips King of Jamaica? What a shameless set of propagandists! Even a dog knows when to get out of the way if you just look at it in a certain manner. Mr P, you really outshine stadium bulb wid fi yu brightness.

kingstonguy

kingstonguy

Peter Phillips, you claim to ‘represent ‘ one of the poorest set of [constituencies] in Kingston/St Andrew ..use the next few years in opposition to try and redevelop and uplift the people nuh and stop being so hungry for power. It’s really unbecoming [of you]. It’s sheer desperation. What will be the legacy you leave when you die? ‘Cause seems like you want to hold on to power till the last breath.

Glendon Marsh

Glendon Marsh

The gall of this man! He was part of an Administration that proved beyond doubt, day after day, they didn’t have a clue. Their leader PSM was particularly clueless, and in spite of their non-performance in office, Dr Phillips dares to criticise this Administration, which has demonstrated quite impressively that they are capable of running the affairs of the country. Have some shame, Mr Phillips! Go sit down and enjoy your obsolescence.
