Digicel reports record-breaking sign-ups for LTE
Digicel Jamaica is reporting that within a week of activating Jamaica’s first LTE network, just over 7,000 customers are now enjoying what it describes as “blazing-fast mobile Internet speeds”.
The communication and entertainment provider said that the bulk of activations came from customers in Kingston and St Andrew, with the remainder from Montego Bay.
“The figure includes existing customer sign-ups, subscribers who have switched to Digicel, and persons roaming while visiting Jamaica,” the company said in a news release.
“At this rate, Digicel LTE is quickly becoming the speed of choice for customers. Our value-packed LTE bundles with generous amounts of data, anywhere minutes and SMS are also being warmly received,” the release quotes Digicel Jamaica CEO David Butler.
Digicel said that with speeds 10 times faster than 4G, newly subscribed customers have already begun raving about the faster download and upload speeds along with the ability to seamlessly view crystal clear, high-definition videos. A number of customers, the company added, have posted screenshots of the superior Digicel LTE experience via popular social media sites.
“LTE subscribers have told Digicel they signed up for LTE to access the convenience of a faster network that allows them to access higher-quality content that their devices are capable of handling, when they want it and where they want it,” the company said.
“Among them are visitors to the island who roam on the Digicel network and can now rate Jamaica as being on par with — or better than — mobile networks in First World countries,” Digicel added.
“Our early success is built on providing a helpful customer care team that has been busy connecting customers, while providing courteous technical support in order to keep them up to speed with life on the go,” said Butler.
In the meantime, the Digicel is also reporting it has received exceptional feedback to its LTE-themed ‘Live The Experience’ tour across the Corporate Area, which gives customers live LTE speed demos and exciting offers, plus a wide range of affordable LTE-enabled smartphones.
The company said it has set its sights on rolling out LTE across the country and promises to keep customers abreast as soon as LTE airwaves are switched on in their parish.
