Great sets at YMZ
WHILE the crowd support was less than he anticipated, promoter Dave Linsday said the Youth Music Zone (YMZ) was a success.
Held at the National Stadium in St Andrew last Saturday, YMZ featured performances from American teen sensations rapper Silento and pop rock sibling band R5. Local acts Don Andre and Bling Dawg were also on the bill.
“The crowd wasn’t what I wanted but while I didn’t profit much financially, the kids had a ball. Their expressions were priceless and that completed me,” Lindsay told Jamaica Observer.
R5 — with lead man Ross Lynch, who plays Austin in the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally — gave a great performance. Their set included Smile, Let’s Not Be Alone Tonight and All Night. Silento had the youngsters dancing with Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) and Lightning in a Bottle.
“All the performances were flawless. They did extremely well and, as I said before, not only the teens enjoyed the event but the entie family. There were four-year-olds just having a great time and that was satisfying enough,” he said.
Lindsay said Youth Music Zone (YMZ) will continue providing events for the entire family.
“It’s not just a concert, but a lifestyle that we are trying to develop. Disney Channel grows most of our children, so we are trying to develop a YMZ network much in that vein,” he said.
“We are looking towards developing YMZ Radio which will output stuff for our children, as now, they really don’t have much of a say as it relates to entertainment. The concert was just to kick off what we have in store,” he added.
