Weekly Round-up: Ja helps Guyana fight crime…3-y-o murdered, parents remanded…Bolt, Shelly headline Rio team
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica is providing assistance to Guyana in strengthening its crime and security intelligence-gathering strategies and techniques, Guyanese Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud announced on Wednesday.
On the crime scene, bail was on Thursday denied for the mother and step-father of a 3-year-old girl whose mutilated body was found on Sunday.
The two were charged under the Childcare Protection Act after police received reports that the infant and her twin brother were left alone at home when she was abducted and killed.
Meanwhile, the 19-year-old male charged with committing the act is set to face the court.
The government has since committed to stiffer penalties for offenders who commit gruesome and indecent acts, especially against women and children
In sport, global superstars Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will headline Jamaica’s largest ever contingent of 59 track and field athletes to an Olympic Games, after they were listed among 63 athletes named for the Rio Olympics in August.
