Community confusion
VISITORS travelling to the Caenwood Road community in Portland will no longer encounter difficulty locating the rural district, as residents have recently erected a sign to distinguish it from the adjoining community of Caenwood.
President of the Citizens’ Association, Fredricka Huggins, told the Jamaica Observer North and East that the sign was erected to indicate to people coming into the area the difference between Caenwood and Caenwood Road.
Huggins, a returning resident, explained that Caenwood is another district adjoining Caenwood Road that people often mistake for it.
“We have been asking that a sign be erected and it was not done, so we came together and erected it with the necessary permission,” she said.
“We have used the correct spelling for the community so that persons will also know how to spell the name correctly. We are also looking forward to doing a community centre and when we raise the funds to do so, it will be along the bank of the river, she added.
The sign was unveiled after a church service at Hope Bay United Church last week.
