T&T PM to address town hall meeting at UWI, Mona tomorrow
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, Dr Keith Rowley will address a town hall meeting at The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona, tomorrow at 2:30pm. The address will be streamed live on the university’s website.
Dr Rowley is the most recent of a long list of UWI alumni to hold the position of head of government in the region.
He graduated from the UWI Mona Campus in Jamaica in 1978 with a PhD in Geology after also obtaining his BSc (1973) and MSc (1975) there.
Prior to the town hall meeting, Dr Rowley will be given a brief tour of the Mona Campus and will be inducted into “Prime Minister’s Park” in honour of UWI graduates who are or have been heads of government.
Dr Rowley’s schedule also includes meetings with Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Sir Hilary Beckles, vice-chancellor of UWI and some of the university’s senior management as well as Trinidad & Tobago students of UWI, Mona.
Vice-chancellor Beckles hailed the visit of Dr Rowley as “another momentous occasion for The UWI family”.
“The UWI has had the honour of celebrating the elevation of many as prime minister, premier, or minister of their various Caribbean countries, and is proud to have had a hand in the moulding of so many distinguished Caribbean leaders. We’re looking forward to hosting Dr Rowley on his first visit to The UWI’s regional headquarters and welcoming the eminent Mona alum,” he added.
