SRHA chairman says passing of young doctor a tragedy
MANDEVILLE, Manchester — Board chairman of the Southern Regional Health Authority (SRHA), Wayne Chen, has lamented Saturday’s tragic and sudden passing of a young medical doctor who was on internship at the Mandeville Regional Hospital.
The deceased, Megan Auden, succumbed to injuries she received during a three-vehicle collision in Mandeville.
The 25-year-old is the daughter of noted Mandeville medical practitioner, Dr Paul Auden, who Chen said is known for volunteering his time and expertise for years to look after “promising” young athletes.
Chen further stated that she is from a “medical family” that has served Jamaica and her untimely passing has impacted the entire community.
“It is really a tragedy that has plunged the whole community into shock and sadness,” he said.
According to police reports, the accident — which took place at about 3:40 pm — was as a result of a wet road surface.
Auden was reportedly heading home to Balvenie Heights in her Grey Hyundai Accent motor car when her vehicle skidded into the path of a taxi along Greenvale Road.
That collision, police said, caused the vehicle to spin into the road and into the path of another taxi. Auden was reportedly thrown from her vehicle onto the roadway.
Police said a passers-by took her to the Mandeville Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Meanwhile, the drivers of the taxi cabs involved in the collision were treated at hospital and released.
The tragedy resulted in a rush of memories of the tragic passing of 19-year-old medical doctor in training, Danielle Hanson, in late 2014.
Hanson and her medical school colleague, Mikhael Campbell, died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle collision on Old Hope Road in Kingston.
The Matilda’s Corner Police reported then that Hanson was driving a BMW motor car in which Campbell was a passenger, heading in the direction of Papine.
Upon reaching a section of the roadway, Hanson reportedly hit the curb and lost control of the vehicle, colliding with a Toyota Prado SUV travelling in the opposite direction. They were both students at the University of the West Indies.
Hanson’s parents are also a part of the medical fraternity in Mandeville.
The Mandeville police said that there were seven passengers in both taxis combined in Staturday’s accident, but they had no report of injuries.
