U-20 World Champs: Four of five J’cans advance
BYDGOSZCZ, Poland – It was a mostly successful third morning for the Jamaican athletes at the IAAF World Under 20 Championships at Zawiszaw stadium in Bydgoszcz, Poland as all but one of the five athletes that competed advanced past the first round in their events.
Defending champion Jaheel Hyde (50.81 seconds) and Timor Barrett with a new life time best 51.56 seconds qualified for Friday’s semi-finals of the men’s 400m hurdles.
Nigel Ellis was an easy second in his 200m first round heat, running 20.87 seconds (0.9m/s), behind Great Britain’s Ryan Gorman who had a personal best 20.84 seconds.
The second Jamaican Hujaye Cornwall was however disqualified after finishing fourth in 21.53 seconds (1.6m/s) and an automatic berth as he was ruled to have infringed, running in another lane.
Jessica Noble meanwhile was the sixth best in the women’s long jump with 6.22m and advanced to the final on Friday afternoon.
