THE fate of popular clergyman Rev Dr Al Miller is to be decided on September 15 in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court, after he was found guilty yesterday of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Miller was arrested and charged in July 2010 when then fugitive Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke was found in his company travelling along Mandela Highway in St Catherine.

Coke was, at the time, wanted by the Jamaican police to be served with an extradition warrant to answer gun and drug charges in the United States.

Parish Judge Simone Wolfe-Reece, in handing down the verdict yesterday, said Miller was not completely truthful to the court and that his “behaviour facilitated the desires” of Coke.

“I am of the view that in relation to the evidence given by the accused man, there are instances where he was less than candid with the court in relation to what happened.

“He appeared to me, based on the evidence, evasive with details from he got the call from someone to the time he exited the (Bog Walk) gorge,” Judge Wolf-Reece said.

The judge, before handing down her ruling, said the central issue in the case was credibility, and that she had to ask herself “Who do I believe?”

Consequently, she said she found the prosecution’s witnesses credible and rejected the evidence led by the Fellowship Tabernacle pastor.

According to Wolfe-Reece, the court found, as a fact, that Miller and his witness Rev Herro Blair, based on their own evidence, were never instructed by then Police Commissioner Owen Ellington to bypass the local authority in the surrender of Coke.

Miller, who was supported by his family and church members during the proceedings, showed no reaction as the verdict was handed down.

His bail was subsequently extended for him to return to court in September for sentencing.

In the meantime, the clergyman, who said he was not surprised at the ruling, told reporters that he accepted the verdict and that his legal team will deal with the matter.

It was not clear up to last night if he would be filing an appeal.
