Delus remembered as a gentle spirit
Family members, well-wishers and members of the entertainment fraternity were among the large congregation that flocked to the Church of Resurrection in Duhaney Park, St Andrew, last Saturday, to celebrate the life of dancehall artiste Delmark Spence, more popularly known as Delus.
Mourners were asked prior to attending to wear cheerful colours. However, the faces conflicted with the ceremony’s attire as many people openly wept the death of the artiste, who was remembered as a true and gentle soul.
In a touching tribute to her nephew, Novlette Williams Brown, described Delus as the type of person who was humble and quiet, but never afraid to reach out to those in need.
“He was the humblest of folks, whose kind and gentle spirit drew everyone to him and because of this he has touched many lives and in the process showed that humility and talent can go hand-in-hand,” she said.
In his homily, officiating clergy Reverend Leslie Mowatt offered words of comfort to the grieving as he reminded them that “God has promised to be a husband to the widow and a father to the fatherless”.
Among the members of the entertainment fraternity seen were Stacious, T.O.K, Voicemail, and Twin of Twins.
Delus, older brother of dancehall act Konshens, was found dead in his Havendale apartment on June 22 after an explosion was heard by his neighbours. On the police’s arrival, his body was found with a single gunshot wound to his head as well as his licensed firearm. Police theorise it was suicide.
His tracks include Sticky Ah Road, Another Gal, True Love and Come Ova featuring Patra. He was promoting hisPublic Relations EP at the time of his death.
Interment was in the Meadowrest Memorial Park.
