Delinquent tax payers in Clarendon, Manchester hauled before the court
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Tax Administration Jamaica’s (TAJ’s) drive to ramp up compliance has reaped reward with several delinquent tax payers in Manchester and Clarendon settling their outstanding tax debts.
Those who did not, were hauled before the parish courts after the TAJ’s Special Enforcement Team conducted joint operations with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) to recover outstanding taxes of approximately $13.1M.
According to a release from the agency today, this resulted in full payment from several taxpayers.
Among the list of tax delinquents were business operators Bunny Rose, Vaughn Fletcher, Tyrone Hartley, and Sydney McPherson.
Additionally, execution of warrants of disobedience were served on Ian Myers, Wengsheng Su, Winston Russell, Donna Lyn, Martin Lilly and Robert Taylor, who were all taken before the parish courts for failure to show on their court dates. They were all subsequently offered bail.
TAJ said it continues to increase its enforcement activities against chronically delinquent taxpayers with a raft of measures under the Tax Collection Act which includes the seizure of assets and garnishment to recover outstanding taxes.
Persons are urged to seek dialogue with TAJ to discuss payment arrangement facilities to remain compliant, as robust enforcement action will follow once all means to collect the outstanding amounts have been exhausted.
Persons may get further information on payment arrangement facilities by contacting the nearest tax office.
