“Nothing Compares to the Rainbow Land Experience”

On any given day it’s hard to get hold of Patrice Peralto (Auntie Pat) and Odette Khoury Epstein (Auntie Odette), founders of Rainbow Land Nursery.

Dealing with children from 16 months to 4 years and catering to all their needs, can be challenging, but the founders of Rainbow Land Nursery School would not have it any other way. Rainbow Land has been moulding the minds of many children’s fundamental learning years in Jamaica and from all over the world, for thirty years, preparing each child for higher learning. The school has maintained an astounding reputation for being able to deliver excellence at all levels. Past students, far and wide have continued to soar and make us proud when they graduate and enter Prep School, High Schools and Universities.

Our children keep us on our toes and there is never a dull moment at Rainbow Land. Our program is centred on singing, music, dance and play and our children enjoy learning which makes each day an exciting experience for them.

Peralto and Epstein both worked at Hillel Academy but decided to start their own Nursery School and this is how Rainbow Land was born. Thirty years later, Rainbow Land is even more colourful and dynamic than ever before with both of these educators at the helm.

Our School has a Nursery and Pre Kindergarten program that prepares our children in a structured way for Prep School. It includes Interactive Learning Circles where the children sit together in a circle and our teachers introduce concepts like letters, numbers. shapes and colours all done through music, singing and dancing which makes learning that much more fun.

Our program is divided into two parts with Academics in the morning and Language Arts after lunch from 11:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m.

At this time, the children have Dance and P.E once per week and Story and Puppetry every day. We also have Social Studies (centred on various themes), Science, and Music with percussion instruments and Spanish twice per week. So, our program is very creative and diverse.

Rainbow Land’s first location was at Windsor Ave, followed by Braemar Avenue, then Shortwood Road and for last three years, 39 Allerdyce Drive has been our home.

Even though close proximity makes it easy for parents to drop off and pick up, Peralto and Epstein have always been firm believers that one won’t mind travelling the distance, if you know that it is in the best interest of your child and this, has been proven with all the different locations we have had throughout the years. Studies show that the most important part of a child’s education is their formative years, so you want them to have the best possible start, even if it means going that extra mile.

Rainbow Land takes the children on an exciting journey to different countries of the world and one of the days that stand out in our minds is when we visited India. Parents from India dressed in their traditional saris visited a learning Circle and shared various aspects of the Indian culture including, customs, festivals, attire and food which they brought in to share. We encourage our parents to get as involved as they can in all aspects of their program as we believe that parental involvement enhances a child’s learning.

A number of expatriates send their children to Rainbow Land, so this helps to open the children’s minds to different cultures at an early age. We have a number of different countries represented at Rainbow Land, proudly supporting our Motto “Out of Many One People.”

At Rainbow Land, we have an Open Door Policy for parents where they can feel welcome to watch a learning circle or sit in on a Spanish class without an appointment. We want our parents and children to feel that Rainbow Land is their second home.

Rainbow Land’s program is very “hands on” and creative and our teachers keep up to date with the latest technology, constantly bringing new ideas to the plate to keep our children stimulated.

We take our children on various field trips into the community which gives them that exposure that they would not get anywhere else.

At Rainbow Land, there is an excellent teacher/ child ratio, where children get individual attention.

Our school hours are from 8a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with an Aftercare Program that goes up to 5:30 p.m. which includes a hot meal.

There are a variety of After school Activities offered all here on our campus including Gymnastics, Football, Tennis, Dance and Swimming in our very own pool.

When our children leave us at age 4, (most having started at 16 months), and enter Kindergarten at a Prep School, they are fully prepared, confident and ready. We love our children at Rainbow Land and we take great pride in what we do and our loving staff welcomes each child into their arms and looks after them like they are their own. So, proudly we would have to boast, that we have an awesome program compared to none and, as our famous saying goes at Rainbow Land,

“Nothing Compares to the Rainbow Land Experience.”
