Selectors take dancehall to St Martin
Sound system selectors DJ Cardo and DJ Ruxie are hoping for more overseas gigs after an ‘eye-opening’ and ‘encouraging’ trip to St Martin last month.
According to DJ Cardo, it made him “realise the great impact that Jamaican music has on the Caribbean”.
Both are members of CD Fantasy, a sound system from Chisholm Avenue in Kingston. Led by Crazy Bling, its team also includes DJ Sprat, DJ Kongry and Mario.
They were contacted by a dancehall fan through social media to play at Club High Up in the St Martin capital, Marigot.
“Wi party till 5:00 am; the club full an’ the vibe was great. Di thing is, wi find out how popular di music is out dey,” said DJ Ruxie (real name Jamie Blake).
He and DJ Cardo (given name Ricardo Redwood) have been with CD Fantasy for five years. Ruxie is from Tavares Gardens; Cardo from the Waltham Park area.
They are resident deejays for events such as Big Daddy Mondays in Tower Hill; Side Chick Tuesdays at Pilly Blacks Plaza in Olympic Way and their Magnum Wednesdays on Payne Avenue.
