Source of possible hydrocarbon-type release being monitored — Petrojam
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Petrojam Limited says they received reports yesterday of a hydrocarbon-type odour in the vicinity of Marcus Garvey Drive, Kingston.
In a news release today, the petroleum refinery said that they immediately took steps to ascertain the source of the odour.
“The refinery is currently in start-up mode, following a brief shutdown for maintenance,” Petrojam stated, adding that their findings revealed that during the start-up process, there was a deviation in the performance of a valve.
This, they say, may have resulted in it relieving intermittently.
Petrojam said that steps have been taking to address the problem and that the situation is being monitored and has been reported to the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA).
