Caribbean Pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championships under way
JAMAICA’S Under-13 boys got off to a good start in the 2016 Caribbean Pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championships Team competition that got under way at the National Indoor Sports Centre (NISC) yesterday.
The Jamaica ‘A’ Under-13 team defeated Jamaica ‘B’ 3-1, while the Jamaican Under-13 girls went down 0-3 to Trinidad and Tobago in their opening match at press time.
Meanwhile, in the Under-11 boys’ competition, Jamaica ‘A’ beat Jamaica ‘B’ 3-1. Jamaica ‘B’ then followed up with a 1-2 defeat to Trinidad and Tobago.
Jamaica also went down 0-3 to Trinidad and Tobago in the Under-11 girls’ team competition.
The four participating countries are Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, Barbados, and hosts Jamaica.
“I have seen some promising Caribbean players in action and they really look good. Our players now have got the chance to play international competition with players having different styles and aggression,” Head Coach Clive Grossett said.
Boys’ Under-13: Jamaica ‘A’ beat Jamaica ‘B’ 3-1. Jordan Campbell lost to Tyrece Nembhard 9-11, 11-7, 4-11, 11-7, 10-12; Derrick Francis beat Anthony Prendergast 11-8, 11-5, 11-6; Cezare MeGhie beat Nathan Chin 11-5, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, and Derrick Francis beat Nembhard 11-2, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5.
Boys’ Under-11: Jamaica ‘A’ beat Jamaica ‘B’ 3-1. Joel Butler lost to Demar Williams 11-2, 3-11, 9-11, 12-10, 10-12; Dujaun Jackson beat Azuzu Johnson 13-11, 11-4, 11-8; Jelani Barnaby beat Andre Richardson 7-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-5, 11-3, and Dujaun Jackson beat Demar Williams 8-11, 11-4, 11-9.
Girls’ Under-11: Jamaica ‘A’ beat Jamaica ‘B’ 3-0. Kesley Davidson beat Olivia Petreken 8-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-1; Liana Campbell beat Tsenay Lewis 11-6, 11-6, 11-3, and Rohanna Anderson beat Giana Lewis 11-9, 11-9, 11-6.
In the other Boys’ Under-13 result, Trinidad and Tobago beat Barbados 3-0, and in the Girls’ Under-13, Trinidad and Tobago beat Guyana 3-1.
