Prison inmate jumps to death
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Department of Correctional Services is reporting that an inmate allegedly jumped from the second floor of the hospital section at Tower Street Adult Correctional Centre about 2:50 pm on Monday.
According to a statement from the security ministry today, the inmate was rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The release said that the inmate who was 50-years-old and serving a sentence of two years for wounding, had recently developed mental issues, but did not exhibit suicidal tendencies.
The matter was reported to the Denham Town Police Station, and is being investigated by the Ministry of National Security Inspectorate Unit.
The name of the inmate cannot be disclosed at this time as his family has not yet been informed.
