Thompson wins Lausanne Diamond League 100m
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s world leading female sprinter Elaine Thompson confirmed her supremacy in the sprints today, winning the 100 metre race at the Diamond League meet in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Thompson, 24, who won the 100 and 200 metres at the recent Rio Olympics, clocked 10.78 seconds, which was slower than her national record-tying 10.70s at the Jamaican Olympic Trials and her 10.71 at Rio.
She finished way ahead of American Jenna Prandini (11.11s).
The race was re-run five minutes after a false start. Only one runner stopped when the gun went off a second time as Thompson and the rest of the field sprinted to the finish, only to have to go all the way back and start the race again.
