Growing up in Central Village, St Catherine, all Barbra-Lee Grant dreamt of was being a fashion model. So when Saint International CEO, Deiwight Peters visited her high school, Cumberland High, in February of 2011 in search of models, she jumped at the opportunity. Since then, she has been signed to four international modelling agencies: Storm Model Management, London; Why Not Model Agency in Milan; MP Paris, Paris and Trump Models, New York.
In her very first season, the model, who is 5 feet 10 inches, was casted for the Alexander McQueen Exclusive in London which opened many other doors, or rather, runways for her.
“That was incredible for a new face like me. I always wanted to go to London and Alexander McQueen is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Grant who has six CSEC, five CAPE unit one and five CAPE unit two subjects under her belt.
Grant has also graced several international magazines and features, including Clash Magazine Editorial, Fashion and Music UK mag, and Beauty Pages Editorial.
She would not want her life any other way.
“My dream is to be a model. There’s somebody else whose dream is to be a teacher,” she said.
“It’s like being a part of something that’s bigger than you but you are contributing,” Barbra-Lee continued, describing her model lifestyle.
“The best thing about being a model is travelling the world, learning different cultures and viewing their tourist attractions,” she said, noting that to her, there is nothing bad about being a model.
When asked what she would do if she fell on the runway, the jovial, affable and poitive model replied:
“I would get up and continue walking.”
She aims to walk for all the major fashion brands of the world and plans to work toward a career that lasts as long as her role model, Naomi Campbell’s.
“Dream big. Have faith. If you don’t have faith your dream will not come true,” she advised TEENs who share her dream.
