The Complete Racing Guide shares the comments of some of the winners on the 11-race O&S Tack Room Supplies Race Day programme at Caymanas Park last Saturday.
Trained by Borris McIntosh and ridden by Anthony Thomas,Miracle Train won the second race over 1,500 metres. Thomas said: “The race was won from the starting gates as I went in front and opened up a good lead at the half, and from there I knew that it would be very difficult to tag me back.”
Winesha, trained by Norman Smith and ridden by Ruja Lahoe, won the third race over 1,000 metres straight. Lahoe said: “Speed kills. She has speed and she just used that speed very well and ran away with this one.”
The Gresford Smith-trained Gold Member, under Dane Dawkins, won the fourth race over 1,000 metres straight. Dawkins said: “Well, she is a very nice little horse and it was a very good race that she won. We got a good break, I kept her relaxed for the first two furlongs and just asked her to run the last two and that was it.”
Francia’s Pride, under Mellisa Ward, won the fifth race over 2,000 metres in a driving finish. After the race, trainer Fitzroy Glispie said: “My instructions were to get a good break and don’t hold her too far off the pace. After that in the back stretch, it was about getting closer to the leaders and then making the final move over the last two furlongs.”
Oneil Mullings, who rode Auntie Rhonda to victory in the eighth race over 1,200 metres, said: “She is better than them, so it wasn’t going to be difficult. Although I had to ride her out, it was pretty much a good race.”
Trained by Errol Pottinger and ridden by Jevvanne Erwin, Maria’s Glory won the 11th and final race over 1,300 metres. Erwin said: “Once she showed up 70 per cent of her natural ability, it would be how far she would win and that was the case here.”
