‘Britain doesn’t need us anymore’

Talk Back

JAMAICA Observer online readers have weighed in on the deportation of 42 Jamaicans by Britain on Wednesday. The deportees, who arrived on a chartered flight at Norman Manley Internatonional Airport in Kingston, complained of injustice at the hands of British authorities. Here’s what the readers had to say:

Angel bluu

Its sad though, but why keep fighting? No way they’ll get back the legal way. No matter how hard they fight it is what it is.

donnietalker

Why is everyone behaving as if this is the first time people are been deported? One man even had the gall to claim that he got deported for a few bags of weed. You knew weed was illegal. You chose to break the people them laws. Now you’re blaming the Government for your plight? If you’re looking sympathy, I have none for you.

Christopher Porter

Britain is the mother, creator, and architect of racism! These people are the worst reptillians on earth. My heart goes out to the ones who haven’t committed any crimes or broken any rules.

gego

@Christopher Porter: By not complying with the country’s immigration laws they commit immigration crimes. You can’t just go to a person’s country and decide to stay. No anancy story dont r’ead so.

precious goddards

@Christopher Porter: Some of us fail to acknowledge that Britain has helped many Jamaicans to successful lives, as the opportunities are there if you want it. As mentioned, you are sorry for the ones who haven’t committed any crimes; In all honesty, a criminal has never committed a crime. Go figure! When we get chances in life we must learn to grab it with both hands, because so many people wish they could get a break to make it in life.

Beeree Reerich

Don’t commit any crime but overstay unno welcome. All your life and just lay back like that’s your birth land. The first priority should be saving towards the documents. Some of them never had any intentions of getting legal documentation. I never fraida of my born land. As long as there’s life there’s hope. So just start over on your own soil where you are legal. More coming…watch out. The exit from the EU is gonna bring lots of nightmares even for its own people.

PhilT McNasty

Now what’s the news here? I just see Garvey’s prophecy fulfilling! We should all understand that Britain doesn’t need us anymore. We have filled our mandate in rebuilding their country after World War 2, thus we are now expendable. Memba we are not even wanted in their prisons either! Welcome to the “new world order” people.

peejay the original

Gosh, I feel sorry for them. But again I ask why didn’t your parents apply for citizenship after you got there? Or even as you became adults you should have.

dallo

I feel like it’s heartless to deport ones who have been there from childhood, back to a place where they got no family or friends. That’s like a death sentence.

Devon Robins

When unno go a people country unno must behave unno self and observe the laws of the country.,

Dinkimini

Unfortunately, if you go to Rome and break Roman laws, you have put yourself in this situation. I do believe the tactics of the UK Immigration service seem heavy-handed but had you all just be good citizens, this would not be an issue. If this was another country, they might have prevented this flight from landing on Jamaican soil.

Polyglot

BREXIT – the beginning of the shake-up of the world!. This is a harsh lesson that when you go abroad you cannot sit comfortably until you become regularised and assimilate following the dictates of the host country. Next will be the USA which already has deportations but it will be even more severe. Mr Rasta who smoked weed and thought that Britain was guilty of worse crimes is just now realising that his case is a weak one. His smoke has now vanished into thin air. Beware, beware!

John Brown

What is wrong with a likkle weed? Weed is life. What is wrong with a likkle coke? It’s for personal use, dem too wicked! We are so used to breaking the law in Jamaica and get away with it, we find it practically impossible to understand the rule of law in another country when broken results in punishment.

steve

I always say that when you travel abroad remember that Jamaica is your home. The first day you land on foreign soil you should start making preparation to return to your roots.

poker-man

Always keep it in the back of your head that once you are in a foreign country you can be deported especially when you are a Jamaican.

A.L.Smalling

No one to be blame but those who decided not to abide by the laws of a foreign nation, in this regard Great Britain. There are millions of Jamaicans, their dependents and offspring living all over the word who are law-abiding citizens and have made valuable contribution both to their homeland and their adopted county. Then there are those who think they can break rule and society should turn a blind eye. When they are caught they turn their anger at someone else. Make your bed, lie in it.

JahB

So it is a regular thing for people to be deported to Jamaica over the years and here it is that the PNP spokesman is asking what the government is going to do for the people who are deported. It just goes to show how desperate the PNP is…

guest

Set your yard right so that you do not have to go to foreign countries to meet racism and injustice…

Really

There are two sides to each story. We have not yet heard exactly why the British made this decision. However, they have rules and if you do not obey then expect the punishment.

Steve Mambafour Ellis

I understand the plight of some of these persons. But the bottom line is, if you are there legally, do what is necessary to get your stay legal. Do not get into trouble, that is, smoking and selling and dealing in drugs. Hopefully, they will get a chance to get things right where they can again migrate to be with their families and loved ones in UK.
