Restoration of classic San San villas and classic luxury cars aside, Jon Baker and Steve Beaver want to focus on actively representing the Geejam brand — once more — in music and entertainment. “The on-property recording studio,” explains Baker, “has just undergone a comprehensive upgrade, putting Geejam Studios on par with the top facilities in Los Angeles and New York.” He’s quick to point out too, that “the studio recently hosted a writer’s retreat for Roc Nation, Jay Z’s label and publishing company, as well as the BMG Music Group who brought down 18 producers and writers for a creative retreat… There is a fantastic opportunity to grow this area and the whole ethos surrounding it with people who really appreciate a certain lifestyle and energy”.

Baker has reason to be optimistic. It has, in his own words, “been the busiest year yet, for the property in terms of recording artistes they have hosted, “with bookings scheduled solidly until year’s end.

Indeed, the Geejam music label and publishing company, which is run as a family enterprise, and includes his son Troy and daughter Savannah, who are the producer and the label’s creative director respectively, have an exciting array of new releases due out before Christmas. Among the artistes on the Geejam roster are electronic production duo Troy Baker and Dale “Dizzie” Virgo aka Diztroy, dually talented singer and dancer Mystic Davis and young DJ, Wayne J.

Baker is also developing an incredible young singer/songwriter by the name of Ricki Simmonds, who is originally from Jamaica but moved to Cleveland, Ohio when she was 10. Her sound, says Baker, “is a unique fusion of neo soul with subtle Jamaican influences, really fresh and exciting stuff”. Her debut LP, Salience, is due out early next year and features collaborations with Diztroy.

Included in the refocus on music, Baker says he’s working toward reactivating the brand’s New York presence through the lens of Geejam influencers, ambassadors and socialistas. “New York has always been home soil for me, and very formative in terms of the music and culture that apprised my personal growth and vision… I consider myself a New Yorker through and through, over and above the UK and Jamaica because I’ve always had my real ground-changing experiences there that have led me to places. We want to keep that connection very strong and interwoven with everything that we do in Jamaica.
