Former Israeli President Shimon Peres in intensive care
Former Israeli president and Nobel Peace Prize winner Shimon Peres suffered a “major stroke” on Tuesday and was being treated in intensive care, one of his doctors said.?
Peres suffered “a major stroke today with a component of bleeding,” Dr Yitzhak Kreis told journalists outside the hospital near Tel Aviv where the elder statesman was being treated.
He was sedated and on a respirator in the intensive care unit, Kreis said.
Peres’s son Chemi told journalists “myself and my family members are going through difficult times, difficult hours”.
“I know that my father did not care about anything as much as he cares about people, as much as he cares about Israel, the Jewish people, and the people in Israel,” he said.
“And I will take this opportunity on his behalf to send all of you his love.
