Manchester Mile Gully in neck and neck duel in Zone F

JUNCTION, St Elizabeth — Manchester High and Mile Gully High remained in a neck-and-neck race in Zone F of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition after close wins in yesterday’s round of rescheduled games.

Despite playing with 10 men for the last 60 minutes of the game, Manchester High beat BB Coke 2-0 in their top-of-the-table clash, while Mile Gully High beat Cross Keys 1-0, as both schools eased to their third straight win to gather nine points.

Grange Hill surprised Petersfield High 1-0 in their Zone D game, while Marcus Garvey’s perfect start was snapped after they were held 1-1 by York Castle High in Zone I.

Meanwhile, four games are scheduled for today with former champions Clarendon College and Zone H leaders Lennon High going after their third straight win when they take on Claude McKay High and Knox College, respectively.

Edwin Allen High and Thompson Town, who are both tied on six points with Clarendon College and Lennon, will meet at Thompson Town.

Lennon are off to a fast start with 13 goals in their two games and are coming off an 8-0 beating of Claude McKay last week.

Clarendon College are nearly as prolific, scoring nine goals in their games.

Happy Grove will host Titchfield in a Zone L game that was rescheduled from the opening weekend when road blocks prevented classes at Happy Grove.

Manchester High were reduced to 10 players in the 30th minute after goalkeeper Jabulani Lindsay was sent off, but they held on to beat BB Coke 2-0 in Junction, handing the home team their first loss of the season.

Okeen Powell and Ajay Chin scored for Manchester High.

Mile Gully kept in close check with the leaders as they edged Cross Keys High 1-0, thanks to a goal from Javel Coley. They also moved to nine points.

Also in Zone F, Bel Air High won their first game of the season, beating DeCarteret College 2-0.

Petersfield High were upset at home by Grange Hill as Rayjay Tingling made full use of a defensive error late in the game to give his team a big win to move into third place on seven points, one more than the losers who slipped to fourth place.

Green Island High rebounded from their loss to Rusea’s High with a big 8-1 beating of Knockalva Technical in Ramble, Hanover. Ackeem Williams led the way with a three-timer.

There were also goals from Martino Dias, Lascelles Mellers, Alton Miller, Glenford Miller and Heitolah Gardner, while Kevin Brown scored the home team’s lone goal.

Munro College and Maggotty played out a 1-1 draw in the remaining 60 minutes of their Zone E game that continued after it was blown off prematurely last week due to a waterlogged field.

There were first-time wins for four schools — Anchovy High beating Maldon High 3-1 in Zone A; Newell High were 4-0 winners over hapless Black River in Zone E, while in Zone M Foga Road beat Winston Jones 2-0, and Porus High beat Denbigh High 1-0.
