Is The Weeknd really a ‘starboy’ though?
Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, wants you to know that he’s a “motherf…ing starboy, ah ah”. The R&B sensation, singer, songwriter and producer recently unveiled the artwork for his upcoming albumStarboy, and dropped the title track.The Hills and Earned It, but proves his musical prowess and willingness to switch things up.
He shocked the internet with the Daft Punk collaboration that certainly is a bit of a departure sound-wise from the hits like
The Weeknd brings all the confidence and narcissism of a typical rapper/ R&B singer to the upbeat pop song as he sings, “Pockets overweight getting hefty ah, coming for the king that’s a far cry, I”
Jamaicans and fans of Jamaican music have, of course, found a way to inject humour into the entire thing and have declared that the only ‘Starboy’ they acknowledge is Mavado (referencing his 2011 hit of the same title).
