Rest, Sister Ingrid, Rest in Eternal Peace
First Editor of Observer North and East, Ingrid Brown, does what she likes best - on the road trying to assist people.
News, North & East, Regional
BY KIMONE FRANCIS & KARL ANGELL Observer staff
September 24, 2016

Rest, Sister Ingrid, Rest in Eternal Peace

The Jamaica Observer especially its North and East publication pays a special tribute to team member, Ingrid Brown. Brown was the first editor of North and East, a fortnightly publication, which covers the four parishes of St Thomas, St Mary, Portland and St Ann.

It was on these pages that Brown found space to express her nascent love for people in need and more importantly, to get assistance for those who needed it most. The pages of Observer North & East during her editorship were replete with the many articles, discovered and developed by Sister Ingrid, as she was known to many of her colleagues. These articles highlighted the plight and suffering of ordinary Jamaicans. She believed in the people of Jamaica and by making their situation known to the wider Jamaican public, Brown was able to lend her support and in many instances provided relief for many.

The impact Sister Ingrid generated through her written pieces was profound and was noticed not only by her colleagues but by readers of the Observer and the Observer North & East.

Jamaica Observer Online readers shared their love and respect for Ingrid Brown posting several comments on this newspaper’s platform. We share some of those comments.

Janaa Pickford: My deepest condolences to The Observer and family. What is life?

PhilT McNasty: My condolences to the family and to the Observer staff. SIP, Ms Brown.

Holy Perv: RIP. Condolences to her family.

kgn 13 yute: I still have in my possession a copy of the newspaper with an article that Ingrid did on a family who suffered at the hands of an arsonist. I contacted Ingrid, she made it possible for me to assist the family and she kept it private as I had requested. This was in the 1990s. The Most Honourable Ingrid Brown.

Noshel: RIP, Ms Brown. Bring us stories from yonder, we are dying to hear from them!

Toronto12: So sad. Gone too soon, but God knows best.

AL.Smalling: An excellent print journalist. May the family take solace that their loved one crafted her trade well. I am sure you all are proud of her. Cherish her memory by creating a fund in her honour.

Spanishtown12: Ah boy. I feel like she’s one of my own. Blessings all around to both her families (biological and Observer)… surely will be missed.

Tom Stroke: Sad to hear! My deepest condolence to the Observer and Ms Brown’s family on her untimely passing; May Ms Brown have peace in her eternal rest, her life appears to be one gone too soon.

NejeeperKNG: She is a beautiful and ambitious lady—gone too soon. Life is short and full of unpredictable events yet some people treat each other as if they know what tomorrow will bring.

Wesbo – The Poet: RIP Ingrid Brown

FL Construction Engineer: Words cannot express my feeling to learn that you are no longer with us. I am extremely saddened to learn that such a beautiful and talented person has left such a void in the news media and myself. Ingrid your fun memories will always live in me. (Fun memories such as driving in Kingston for the first time, you laugh at me because I thought my GPS would help me get around and I got lost) My sincere condolences to your family, mother, sisters, sons, co-workers (especially Pete) and the entire Jamaica Observer staff.

Glen N: RIP, my friend Ingrid. Deep sympathy to your family and friends and the Jamaica Observer family. Walk good, my friend.

C465Kelly: My condolences go out to her family, friends, and relatives. May her soul, mind, and body rest in peace. No words or quotes can bring the dead back to life, but we have to try our best to find words or quotes to help ease the pain of losing a loved one. So, I leave those grieving with the following: A: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on Him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” – John 5:24-26.

HDC: My condolences to the JO staff, rip miss brown!

jamdel51: RIP, dear sweet one. You have left us way too soon. I spoke to you twice on the phone regarding two families you wrote about who needed help. Because of you I was able to help and I’m sure others did too. You were doing God’s work in writing those stories about people in need. Condolences to your family and all your loved ones.

PC Jabru: I can hardly believe it’s only a couple of days ago we grappled with the sudden passing of a beloved and promising young person, namely, Dominic James, of whom we collectively sighed, “Gone too soon.” Here we are again, this time grieving the loss of another beloved and promising Jamaican, Ingrid Brown. Deepest condolences to the family, friends and associates.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). If the tragic loss of Dominic, or Ingrid, or the loss of the many Jamaicans who slip over that fragile step too soon every day, cause us to reflect on our own mortality long enough to sincerely turn to Jesus and accept the only eternal solution to our daily dilemma, the emptiness and grief that so many feel today at such losses can be replaced by meaningfulness and hope tomorrow.

Scandinavia: My sincere condolences to Ingrid’s family, colleagues, friends and staff of the Observer. According to her track record mentioned here by the Observer, the company has lost a great person. RIP, Ingrid, gone too soon.

Lau: Oh dear. Rest in peace, Ingrid Brown. Condolences to the family.

Derrick Hennie: Jesus said to the sisters, Mary and Martha in John 11:15-”Lazarus is dead and I am glad, for your sakes.” He delayed the call to come see his friend who was sick, but he died four days before, was buried and started to decompose. Yes, the voice of the ‘resurrection and life’, Christ himself, summoned Lazarus from his sleep; the sleeping of death that only the command of God will bring back to life, in a spiritual body. Death will be no more. We mourn for the death of loved ones, but they sleep. If they died in Christ, we in Christ will see them again.

RIP Ingrid Brown; we who are left behind, family, friends and acquaintances with your writings, have the hope to see her again.

Yard Vibz: Such a pity! Her firm grips on the pen had not gone unnoticed—very crafty writer, who had tailored her works (much of which archived in my system) to captivate her target audience… One love — sister!

Tyroneosborne: My deepest condolence to the family and friends of Ms Brown. That live issue can take you down so quickly.

Frank Dallen: RIP=INGRID.

Pelue Dennis: She’s a legend, a hero and no doubt a fighter. SIP, hun, u have done your duties. My condolences to her entire family. May they find comfort in their faith.

XAMYCA: Extremely sad news. Condolences to her friends and family

Kri$$: Rest in peace…always reaching out to get all perspectives on a story. She will be sadly missed!!

Richard Edwards: Such a wonderful soul, gone way too soon. May Ingrid rest peacefully. She is simply good at what she does and always shines the light on the lives of the less fortunate bringing their story to the forefront she will be sadly missed by all.

Mike Graham: Condolences to her family and friends.

Icilda Taylor: Rip. God loves you best
