What a difference Lasix can make
Money Magnet made an impressive debut on August 27 when she won by five lengths ahead of Chrisanli and Tough Cookie in a 1,100-metre event in a decent 1:07.3 minutes. On September 10, on her return to the racetrack she was beaten five lengths by Very Classic in the Terremoto Trophy over 1,000 metres round in a quick 59.3 seconds.
Reports are that after being bumped at the start of the race, Money Magnet bled.
Then trainer Richard Azan made the decision to introduce Lasix on Sunday September 25 for the filly’s competitive effort in the Keeling Memorial Cup over five and a half furlongs (1,100 metres). And what a difference it made. Money Magnet responded by cruising home by eight lengths over 1,100 metres in a useful 1:06.2 minutes.
From a level break, Money Magnet (Odeen Edwards) shot into an early lead but quickly surrendered that lead toMr Universe approaching the half-mile.
As the tempo of the race began to increase, Money Magnet made what turned out to be the decisive move when she regained the lead heading towards the home turn and drew away from the field in deep stretch for an emphatic victory.Mr Universe was second, with Very Classic third.
“These two-year-olds always train on. It was a good performance by her to win. She is a very nice, big filly who is on the improve, and my hope is that she can stay healthy and be one for the fillies’ Classic races next year,” Azan said.
