Young student athletes receive scholarships from Honey Bun
Four students, from Edwin Allen High, Lewisville High, John Mills Primary and Junior High and Retreat Primary and Junior High schools, received scholarships from Honey Bun to go towards facilitating their education last Friday.
The students were recommended by their respective coaches and received either scholarships towards tuition or book vouchers from Honey Bun as part of the ‘Black, Green and Goldie’ celebration of their pastry product.
The goldie, a Honey Bun product was launched in 2012 to commemorate the performance of Jamaican athletes at the London Olympics.
Students who received tuition scholarships were Jaheim Gilmore, 14, from John Mills and Khamoy Farquherson, 17, from Edwin Allen. Gilmore competes in the 400m and 200m events and wants to become a soldier in the future. Farquherson, meanwhile will compete at the ISSA Boys and Girls Championships in class one this year.
Tasha-Kay Ellis, 10, from Retreat and Samantha Morris, 16, from Lewisville High in St Elizabeth received book vouchers. The chirpy Ellis competes in all the sprint events and wants to become a teacher in the future. Morris wishes to come a Medical Doctor and plies her athletic trade in the 100m and 200m events.
According to Janelle Brown, Marketing Executive at Honey Bun: “Our living legends like Usain Bolt and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce are passing their baton to the next generation and Honey Bun is taking steps to ensure that the pride we all feel does not end with them. Talent can only go so far, we must invest in these students so they too can grow into champions.”
Through the Black, Green, and Goldie Promotion, which began Friday, July 29, Honey Bun will donate part proceeds from the sale of its special Goldie eight-pack to student athletes from primary and high schools. Consumers will receive two free Goldies for every six bought, while stocks last. The special, which is available at Shoppers Fair supermarkets will run until August 30.
