St George’s demolish Tarrant 11-0
A second-half rush of goals from St George’s College carried them to an 11-0 drubbing of Tarrant High in an ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup Group A game at Winchester Park yesterday.
The win carried many-time champions St George’s College to 12 points but they remain in second position, while Excelsior stayed atop on 13 points by blanking Greater Portmore 4-0 at Stadium East.
Skipper Alex Marshall and Akiiki Jackson led the St George’s deluge with three goals apiece.
Following an even exchange in the opening minutes of a game that was shifted to Emmet Park by the organisers, St George’s began to untangle themselves from their visitors and 10 minutes into the game, Jackson put St George’s ahead.
Four minutes later, he made it 2-0.
Following the two early setbacks Tarrant raised their game, but went to the break trailing 3-0 after Hakim Williams scored a third goal in minute 37.
St George’s returned in a rampant mood.
As the “Light Blues” went on the attack, Tarrant were left pinned in their half for the most part of the second half, and the floodgates were open.
Tarrant conceded eight second-half goals, with Marshall being the major contributor with goals in the 56th, 75th and 76th.
Jackson completed his hat-trick with a thunder blast of a shot in minute 62, with other goals coming from Lavaughn McKay (47th), Jevoun McKeller (61st), Damani Harris (87th) and Ronaldo Watson (88th). Harris’ goal came within one minute of him coming on as a substitute.
Victorious coach Neville Bell was pleased with the way his players acquitted themselves.
“It is always good to get a victory, especially when you are playing at home. We scored a lot of goals, but it was not as easy as it looked,” he said.
Tarrant coach Lamar Morgan sought to hail his players, despite the the scoreline.
“When you look at the team, it is only about three or four of the first-team players that were on the field, and the effort put out by those on the field must be applauded,” he said.
