#TrackingMatthew: Trelawny beach closed, shelter managers put on alert
TRELAWNY, Jamaica —The popular Burwood Beach near Falmouth, Trelawny, which last year underwent a multimillion-dollar refurbishing exercise, has been closed as the parish prepares for the possible impact of Hurricane Matthew.
A source close to the Trelawny Parish Council, which owns and operates the facility, said the beach “will remain closed until further notice”.
Meanwhile, Disaster Preparedness Coordinator for the parish Dion Hylton-Lewis says managers for the 60 official shelters across the parish have been put on alert and are ready to operate the shelters, if it becomes necessary.
