#TrackingMatthew: Do not trim trees now, NSWMA urges
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is asking people to desist from placing cuttings from trees along roadways as these will ultimately be washed down into drains and gullies and create opportunities for flooding.
“We wish to remind the public that we have suspended collection until after the passage of Hurricane
Matthew,” NSWMA said in a news release Monday. “Immediately after, the clearing of debris and the removal of solid waste from main roads will be our priority and we assure the public that all efforts will be made to do timely collection of these items along with scheduled residential collection.”
Meanwhile, NSWMA is encouraging everyone to take all necessary precaution to safeguard lives and
properties against the impact of Hurricane Matthew and to remain indoors.
