STETHS, CC, Dinthill, Ocho Rios advance to D’Cup quarters

STETHS, CC, Dinthill, Ocho Rios advance to D’Cup quarters

MONTEGO BAY, St James — Defending champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), and two other former champions Cornwall College and Dinthill Technical, as well as Ocho Rios High have secured at least a place in the quarter-finals of the ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup football competition after back-to-back wins in the Inter-zone round yesterday.

STETHS extended their dominance over Lennon High after a 2-1 win at the St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex; Cornwall College spanked 10-man Petersfield High 6-0, while Dinthill Technical held off first-time qualifiers Steer Town 3-2 at Dinthill.

Ocho Rios High edged Fair Prospect 1-0 to lead Zone Five with six points.

The teams are on six points each in their respective zones and will win their zones on Tuesday with at least a draw in their final Inter-zone round game and a spot in the first round of the FLOW Super Cup competition.

Jovoney Brown scored both goals for STETHS as they blunted the high-riding Lennon High team that was coming off a 4-0 win on Wednesday.

At Jarrett Park, Cornwall College exploded with six against Petersfield, who had knocked them out of the competition last year, with Peter-Lee Vassell leading the way with two goals, while Jourdaine Fletcher, Emmanuel Campbell, substitute Dwayne Harding, and an own goal accounted for the other goals.

Petersfield played the second half with 10 players after goalkeeper Akeem Brown was sent off after elbowing a Cornwall College player in the head.

Cornwall College managed just four goals in their three games in the Inter-zone last year and have score nine unanswered in their two games played so far.

Dinthill Technical also made it two straight as they shook off a pesky Steer Town 3-2 with goals from Jason Lecky, Anton Rhule and Richard Reeves with a free kick in the second half.

Mikel McCoy scored the lone goal for Ocho Rios as they extended their winning run.

There were also wins for Spot Valley, Green Island, Alston High, Manchester High, Port Antonio and Bog Walk as they struggle to keep their hopes of advancing alive.

Courtney Chisholm scored inside the first minute as Spot Valley edged Godfrey Stewart High 1-0, while Green Island rebounded from their loss on Wednesday to beat Cedric Titus 1-0 with a goal from Carlington Wright.
