Tuffy pilots Waterhouse past Tivoli Gardens

Jermaine Anderson, the proverbial ‘stone’ that the builder refused, struck for the second game in succession to give Waterhouse FC a 1-0 win against Tivoli Gardens in their Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) game at Drewsland yesterday.

Following a high press game adopted by both teams, Anderson got behind the Tivoli Gardens defence to score the winner in the 65th minute. The man who recently returned to the starting line-up also scored against Harbour View in their previous game to give Waterhouse their first win of the season.

In a match that both teams wanted to win, while not rugged, it was very competitive, and resulted in the teams equally sharing six yellow cards.

And veteran player Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson, the Tivoli Gardens linchpin attacker, was on the butt of a double booking in minutes 24 and 83 that sent him for an early shower.

Waterhouse’s coach Marvin Tate was a relieved man at game’s end. “I feel happy for the victory. I thought God had been good to us today. We came out with a lot of injuries – six to be exact, and we had to make a lot of changes to the team that played against Harbour View. And, for that, I thought the team put their hearts and shoulders to the wheel and played well to get a narrow but nonetheless encouraging win.

“’Tuffy’ (Anderson) started it against Harbour View and he came back today with another goal to give us the win, and that is an encouragement for the team,” Tate added.

His losing counterpart Omar Edwards told reporters that, “Despite the loss, the performance of my team was not bad overall. We went down to 10 men and were a goal down and it was always going to be a struggle. But, even so, the team showed character, dug in without much success, and I really appreciate the effort of the team this afternoon.”
