Blak Gad 118lb tops Canoe Tournament
Port Antonio, Portland — Blak Gad with Jason Bailey-Wright landed a 118-pound marlin to top the 32nd Port Antonio Canoe tournament ahead of Tommy Hawk with a 116-pounder.
Bailey-Wright was happy for the victory. “It was really exciting, nice experience still, although it is a regular thing. Everyone out there trying to catch the biggest fish. It was the first bite and it was two but we only got one and it was early in the morning. We came in and went out but we didn’t even get a bite. We are happy and really excited,” he said.
They won the Red Stripe Trophy for their efforts.
Reshima Kelly, assistant brand manager for Red Stripe Beer, was pleased with their involvement and looks forward to continuing their support. “Anything that is Jamaican is very synonymous with our brand Red Stripe and we continue to support the local industry, primarily the sporting industry, and although fishing is not a popular sport it is something that we definitely do and the canoe tournament is something that is very special to us as well because it is a part of our culture and as the Red Stripe brand we saw it fit where we could have come on board this year, and certainly it was a success. It was well done despite the setback from Matthew (hurricane). We will do our assessment and definitely we will be back next year,” she said.
Sea Queen topped the areas for most dolphin (40lbs) and tuna (18lbs).
Forty-seven canoes took part in the canoe tournament.
