Livicated to Akae Beka
For the second time this year, St Croix reggae band Akae Beka is in the Billboard Reggae Album Chart’s Top 10. Their Livicated debuts at number six.
Released on October 21 by Zion High Productions, Livicated contains 12 tracks. In April, Akae Beka’s Portals, produced by I Grade Records, entered the chart and peaked at number eight.
Akae Beka was founded last year by members of the band Midnite. The group comprises Vaughn Benjamin (lead vocalist); Edmund Fieulleteau (guitar); Kenny Byron (guitar); Sly Molina-Curet (drums and percussion); Ras L (bass) and Suren Fenton (keyboards).
Benjamin started Midnite in the late 1980s with his brother Ron Benjamin. They established a strong following on the United States west coast through frequent tours.
Rebelution continues to rule the roost at number one with Falling Into Place from Set In Stone by Stick Figure.
Stephen Marley’s Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life is number three.
Another new entry in the top 10 is the compilation, Studio One Radio Show. It moves from 11 to number 10. The set features performances recorded by Studio One artistes for the Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation during the late 1970s.
Among the artistes are The Heptones, Burning Spear, Ernest Ranglin, Sugar Minott, Ken Boothe and Alton Ellis.
Elsewhere,Livin Free by Roots Creation rebounds to number nine, while Fireflies from John Brown’s Body stays firm at number eight.
Falling one place to number seven is The Frightnrs with Nothing More To Say, while Ziggy Marley’s self-titled set moves up two places to number five.
Former number one Wandering Soul by Hawaiian reggae singer Hirie, jumps six places to number four.
