NCB tightens online security
NATIONAL Commercial Bank (NCB) said yesterday that it has invested more advanced technology to secure its Internet banking platform, which should see its customers having greater security online.
This new technology, said the bank, will help protect customers from fraud, theft and intrusion from cyber criminals.
“The implementation of this improved online security feature — the RSA SecurID token — is one of the safest authentication solutions used globally by banks and other entities of various sizes. The RSA SecurID token is a small, physical hardware device that generates a one-time-password (OTP) that is used along with a personal identification number (PIN) to create a user-specific code. Together, they allow access to internet banking with the ability to conduct transactions with greater levels of security,” the bank said.
“This implementation is in recognition of continued efforts to enhance the security of banking systems through different means. Following due diligence, we found a solution that could best enable us to protect our customers’ information and restate our commitment to provide secure and desirable banking platforms,” said Howard Gordon, senior general manager of the Group Operations and Technology Division.
According to the bank, all customers who utilise business Internet banking are being introduced to this feature and will be required, in the next few months, to have a token in order to gain access to the virtual platform and carry out select transactions.
“Officers of NCB will be making provisions and working directly with all business customers to ensure a seamless transition for full use of the RSA SecureID token solution. Eventually, all persons will be required to use this solution to access the Internet banking service,” a release from the bank said.
