Champions Holmwood, Denbigh to continue defence of netball titles

Defending champions Denbigh High and Holmwood Technical will be hoping to keep their unbeaten record intact as they seek to defend their Junior and Senior League titles, respectively, in the second round of the ISSA Rural High School Leagues today.

Matches in both leagues are scheduled for several venues, with action set to start at 10:30 am.

Denbigh, who are the Junior League champions of last year, and also the All-Island champions, will go up against Hampton High at the Manchester High School at 10:30 am.

Holmwood Technical, last year’s winners of the Senior League and the All-Island title, will face Dinthill Technical at Glenmuir High School court scheduled to get underway at 11:15 am.

Carlene Graham-Powell, coach of many-time rural senior all-island champions Holmwood, believes her team will easily navigate their way out of Group Three.

“We should easily come out winners from this group as I am not too worried that any real challenges will be produced from my opponents. I have seen Dinthill in action only once, and that was in the Clarendon League some months ago and we won,” Graham-Powell said.

Meanwhile, Janice Hancel-Walker, coach of many-time rural Junior League champions, is also expected to come out on top in Group One, but remains wary of today’s opponents.

“Despite not seeing my opponents Hampton in action this season, they must be doing something good to advance to the second round. However, I won’t be taking them for granted as I expect them to put up a challenge, while I am looking forward to start on a winning note,” she said.
