Scotiabank A, Ministry of Education hunt Business House Senior League netball title
IT is expected to be another intriguing and exciting battle between defending champions Scotiabank A and Ministry of Education, Youth and Information (MOEYI) when they contest the 2016 Business House Netball Association Senior League final at the National Arena today, beginning at 6:00 pm.
Scotiabank A earned the right to be involved in a third meeting this season with conquerors MOEYI after defeating National Housing Trust A 44-33 in a play-off encounter.
Scotiabank A had won the first meeting 35-28, while MOEYI won the second 44-39.
Both coaches, Winston Nevers of Scotiabank A and Jennifer Brown of MOEYI will no doubt come into this final confident.
Nevers admitted he made a mistake in the last match against a physical MOEYI team by making inappropriate changes in the fourth and final quarter, while leading 33-25.
“Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but Marsha Murphy-Dawkins is still very important to the team despite returning after her knee surgery,” Nevers explained.
He said today’s match should be evenly contested. “Our opponents are very strong in the defence, centre court and the shooting area and we have to match them throughout and hoping to apply early pressure.”
Nevers noted that the team that plays better today should eventually come out victorious, but as defending champions he was looking to retain his title. “At least four players on the opposing team play for Jamalco Club, which is presently coached by me, and they are key players for their team.”
Meanwhile, Brown said each game is different and if you play a team five times you will have to prepare for the upcoming one, as the umpiring, attitudes and mindset are not the same as the last match.
“We cannot allow our opponents to have a clear lead as we will have too much work to do; we need to stay as close as possible and it will eventually pave our way to victory,” Brown said.
She said her players have been prepared for another showdown with Scotiabank A in what should be another tough battle. “It won’t be that easy, as we expect our opponents to come out with their usual challenge.”
Meanwhile, the other three finals to be played today are Continental Baking Company vs Housing Agency of Jamaica in the junior league at 1:15 pm.
Norman Manley International Airport go up against RJR/Gleaner in the Intermediate B League final at 2:30 pm.
Sagicor Life A take on Jamaica National Group in the Intermediate A League final to start at 4:00 pm.
Presentation of trophies and other awards will be done at the completion of the senior league final.
