Wolmer’s, Cornwall College to face off in Super Cup final
KINGSTON, Jamaica – For the first time since it’s inception, the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)/FLOW Super Cup competition will see a rural area team face off with an urban team in the final, when Cornwall College meet urban area representatives Wolmer’s Boys on November 12.
Both teams registered contrasting victories in their respective semi-final contests at Sabina Park on Saturday.
Corwall College, the trendsetters out of Montego Bay, remain unbeaten this season as they diffused the red hot Clarendon College flame with a 4-2 scoreline in a high-quality semi-final encounter, which lived up to its billing before a massive crowd.
The prolific Jourdaine Fletcher led the way for Cornwall College with his second three-timer in the competion with goals in the 59th, 62nd and 89th, after young Aiden Jokomba found the opener in the 26th. Shemar Hunter (36th) and captain Creggton Charlton (40th) were the scorers for Clarendon College
Meanwhile, Wolmer’s Boys defeated St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) 6-5 on sudden death penalty after playing out a 1-1 scoreline in full and extra time in the feature game of the double-header.
Wolmer’s went in front courtesy of a 15th-minute penalty by Alphanso Gooden, but Demar James kept STETHS in the game in the 87th and into penalty.
Both first-time finalists will battle for the $1-million prize and the Italian-designed trophy in the third staging of the competition dubbed the “Champions League of Schoolboy Football”.
