Irons Mountain students love their community
When asked what, they love about their community, students at the Irons Mountain Primary School will tell you that they like the quiet and peaceful life that exist.
A community which supposedly got its name because the lands in the mountainous area were owned by the Irons brothers, Irons Mountain has remained a relatively quiet community with farming the main source of income.
Over the years, the community has enjoyed a safe environment, although there have been issues of violence in neighbouring areas.
Children at the Irons Mountain Primary are aware of the safe environment they reside in and happily speak of the peace they enjoy in the hilly terrains of St Ann.
“I love that there is no violence and crime,” grade six student Shenelle Steer, who wants to become a teacher, told the Jamaica Observer North and East during a recent visit to the institution.
“It is very nice here and the people don’t like to cuss,” aspiring soldier Aswayne Brown said.
“I love the hard-working students and adults,” Kayla Murphy said.
“We love the peaceful and humble people,” she added.
The students also love their school.
“We love how the teachers motivate us with 4H, mathematics and culture clubs,” Murphy said.
The children said they also loved the field trips they are taken on by the school; these trips include visits to places such as the Green Grotto Caves and the Rose Hall Great House.
While they love their community, many of the students at the Irons Mountain Primary School are now looking forward to attending the Ferncourt High School in the neighbouring Claremont community.
